Talked to the machinist today. The head is warped, the block deck is warped, the crank stills needs to be mic'd to determine if the journals need to be polished, or turned. It still looks like I'll be $ ahead if this pile of junk is rebuilt vs. getting a remanufactured engine.

Man, did I ever score today! Since none of the three ebayers would send me pictures of the exhaust ports, I did a local search on craigslist. I found a fellow whose buddy gave him a complete 4.3l engine/sterndrive/controls if he'd pull it out of his boat for free (the buddy was switching to an outboard) . This made him extra generous to me, so I got a recently rebuilt head for $200, plus practically brand new lifters, cylinder bolt set, timing belt tensioner, valve rockers, valve cover gasket, plus his old pushrods all thrown in for free.

Good karma today!

I also got some good advice regarding machine shops. I won't use the one that did his engine work, since his crank seized on him shortly after putting everything back together. This place is apparently a mess. I'll use the one described as an air conditioned operating room.

I have removed the engine and am in the process of putting it on a stand.

Here is the exhaust side of the block. Note the white drip marks on #4 cylinder area. Is this an indication of a blown head gasket?

I finally got a good look at my pistons, cylinders, and crank. This thing had to be in line for an untimely seizure. Check out the pictures. Glad I'm getting this over with now.
