Thought I would post this as a reminder of why it is important to inspect our trailers every so often as we do our boats, bearings, and other equipment. A friend of mine just made the move back from South Carolina,to the Indy area. He went fishing yesterday and as he pulled the boat from the water this happened.

Lucky that he did no damage or have it happen on his way down the road. I just changed all my U bolts on my bunks where they bolt to the frame and also all the bolts holding the boards to the frame bracket. I found one bolt was missing and all the U bolts were rusted very bad. Also looked over the welds and other areas. I know you can't just look at stuff and be 100% they are in perfect shape but you can at least see the obvious stuff.

Looks like that wasn't a great spot to put a big hole for a marker light.

Good advice. Shouldn't be too hard to repair.

About the light, the bracket is welded so the hole through the frame should be quite small, just enough for the wiring.

I think the failure was caused by welding the cross member in at the spare tire. Metal fatigue along the weld?

Shows how important it is to inspect your equipment. Underneath as well as a visual from above. Having seen that I am going to give my trailer a good check over today.
