Inspecting exhaust flappers

how easy/difficult is it to inspect these infamous flappers that I keep hearing about?<br />Have a 165hp mercruiser 1987 with a closed cooling system.

Remove hose #7 and look down into exhaust at item #6 the exhaust shutter.<br />

Careful if your boat is in the water...mine is at water level with me at the rear of the boat. You could begin to take on water by disconnecting exhaust bellow.
