New oil tank should come with the engine and being you're staying with the same brand of engine, not a big job. The hardest part is getting the old engine off and the new engine on. You may have to get an adapter to make your harness fit the new engine but not a problem. In fact there should be a booklet called an Installation manual that comes with the engine. Now the important part is warranty. You may have to have a dealer sign off on the installation to validate the warranty. $1200, dang!! I must be doing something wrong or doing them too fast.

Ahoy, George.

First of all, there is no way that swapping the engines should run more than about $500.

You have at least 90% of the right parts to hook up to the Johnny. There are probably some details I don't know about.

You will need a method of lifting off about 315lb and lowering the new engine onto the transom with some precision. All connections and bolt holes should match.

Good luck. :)

gvisko,

As the others have said, the swap should be pretty straightforward.

I believe that the '02' has "system Check" though. That may require another harness (wiring) or at least an adapter.

Re: INSTALL NEW MOTOR MYSELF ?

What are they doing to charge $1200.00 to mount an outboard? Most rigging charges around here range from $100.00 - $300.00 max.

I am in the process of repowering my boat with a different brand (Mercury to Yamaha). They are rigging the boat at no charge; it did take a little dealing though. It should be ready tomorrow. :D

Double check that the lower unit has fluid. The oil pump may need priming, so run extra oil in the fuel for break in. I use Marine 5000 sealant/adhesive on the mounting bolts.

As Capt Ken said, the warranty will be worthless unless the dealer performs some kind of PDI (pre-delivery inspection). I would let him do the initial start-up and tune. It should be free. He also needs to submit your warranty card. The last outboard I mounted myself was ran and tuned by the dealer and put back in the box before shipping.

Congrats. :)

You'll need a lifting eye and a engine hoist. I made a lifting eye using my harmonic balance puller and a bolt with a big washer welded on it. Rental for a engine hoist is about 50 bucks for the weekend.

c/6

Hooty

The reason it is so expensive is that your getting a quote in the "hamptions". Compare it to the real-estate there. The cost of living is 72% higher then the national average.

Just a thought. :)

DC

The installation manual should have a pre-delivery check list in the back. Go down the list item by item and you'll know everything has been checked.
