let me just clear something up i did not remove the carrier. only replaced the oil seals. but while replacing the anode i stripped one of the bolts and had to send it out to be tapped. when i got it back the wedges were now on the sides rather than top and bottom (don't know if thats a problem or not) there's no play in the shaft and it's rather dificult to turn but does turn. i can't see any diferance from one side to the other on the thrust washer....as i said i never pulled the carrier off and i'm not looking forward to doing so if at all posable.... the picture i have of the housing is now turned 90 degrees clockwise.....HOW HARD CAN I HIT THIS I REALLY DON'T WANNA CRACK IT???

while retapping the threads of the housing it looks as thou the housing turned 90 degrees would that damage the shaft????????

shaft is sticking and theres no longer any play it it. i used to be able to pull the shaft back and forth about 1/4 to 3/8 but can no longer do that

You need to pull the prop shaft housing back out and align the thrust bearing and reverse gear.
