I installed a new starter in my 351 ford mercruiser. there were two black wires and a coppoer like metal piece around a hose. I removed that as it was bent and I couldnt get it back on. it didnt ground anything but did i install the two black wires incorrectly? I went to turn the key and the terminals are smoking and it wont do anything. Any help would be appreciated. There was the yellow wire which went from starter to solenoid then two blacks by the crankshaft where you put the teeth together....

Use photobucket.com to post some pics All you should have done was connect the large yellow cable to the starter, black is usually ground.
