Anyone have any thoughts as to mounting a Lanyard Kill Switch on a 2HP Johnson? Where should I attach the unit? Will be looking at Youtube videos later on.

Remove flywheel.-------Add a wire to the connection for coil / condenser.---------Drill hole through magplate and feed wire out.---------Install a second wire to the block.----Add kill switch to the 2 wires.

I am more concerned with the mechanical aspects, how to mount a bracket, where on the motor, etc. Can I drill through the magneto plate and fix the switch through it? Should it go on a bracket there? Or on the steering handle? I am also concerned with vibration at low speed.

I was wondering the same thing. Not many places on a 2hp to hang something like that. Also consider the 306 degree steering, and whether the lanyard will yank off in any steering angle. Whatever, it looks like you will have to fabricate a custom mounting bracket.

That is my thought. The bracket will have to attach to the part of the engine that rotates and I will probably have to learn to rotate the engine towards myself when reversing to keep it from disengaging. There is not a lot of wire length to the unit I have bought. This will be a project for the autumn.

I am also going to extend the steering handle by welding a short piece of pipe on the end, then turning a piece of hardwood and cementing it into the pipe with epoxy. With that Mariner 4 and the wooden seat I am using, the stock handle is too short. I may be able to attach a bracket to this.
