Re: Installing a new distributor cap in my mercruiser.

I have yet to make a 2 min phone call to a customer. if you leave orders to dewinterize it and it just needs routine maint parts I will not waste a phone call. usually by the time I explain it all its a good 10-15 min. so I am supposed to back the boat in, test everything, try to call the customer, move the boat out after clearing all the tools, next day another 10 min on the phone, back the boat back in and fix it? man ya just racked up another 100 dollars in moving about charges. thats why my customer base has no skinflints. ya either wish it to run or ya take it someplace that likes to chat on the phone. I dont have time for it.

Originally posted by Quietcat:
DonS and Scandal,

I am sure Don will have some experience with this, but my comment was in regards to the rotor. My 2001 6.2 required a torch to break locktite loose that Merc uses on the shaft. Blew my mind, but it is right there in the service manual, and it wouldn't budge without the heat. Didn't seem right to me considering the proximity to fuel lines, but that's the deal. I have no idea how widespread that type of rotor install is.
Dear Quietcat,
I am having trouble with my MErc 4.3LX with Thunderbolt IV loosing power after 2500 RPM, I have switched everything between engine but the rotor and the pickup because I cannot remove rotor, do you need a "torch" to do that?
Thanks Fede from ITaly
