Installing a new doghouse and jump seats...

Hi all!

I'm reworking an '86 Four Winns Merc. 470. Removed the sunbathing deck and bench seat to gain access to the engine and don't want to reinstall the old and decrepit stuff. In fact, I'm going to build a doghouse and install jump seats figuring that it will be easier to get to the engine in the future.

Anyway I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions on how to mount the jumps so that I can remove them easily when I need to get in there. I doubt that my side panels are sufficient to support one side of a slide-in seat, and I don't want to make the doghouse out of heavy wood to support the other side, so I intend to use the base that comes with the seat.

My question is: How can I mount them to the deck securely and still have the ability to unhook and slide them back out of the way when needed?

Any experience with similar situations would be much appreciated.

Re: Installing a new doghouse and jump seats...

I have these jump seats in my boat http://www.iboats.com/Designer-Plus...6975123--**********.320330311--view_id.374548 they are attached to the deck with 2 lag bolts that go through a crossmember in the seat base. I would think it would be very easy to use some of those fasteners (I forget what they're called) that are a lag on one end and a threaded rod on the other with some wingnuts to hold the seat down.

Hi all.

Finished up the interior. I had the old "brougham" interior with sundeck and bench seat. Upholstery was shot and access to the engine was problematic. So I reworked everything, including building the aforementioned doghouse.

Seats from Wise; doghouse made out of PT 1/2 inch plywood with PT 2/2's for reinforcement, foil-faced bubble insulation (Ace Hardware), and carpet and vinyl with SS hardware everywhere. (Needed it wide to accommodate the HunnFinn top mount alternator kit.) Finally, white vinyl paint for the side panels which were the only upholstery that wasn't torn up.

Oh, and I did mount the jumpseats with the 5/16" dowel bolts suggested by ezmobee and some thumbscrews and flat washers. That works out well too, as I can get each seat in or out in about 45 seconds.

Thought you guys might like to see it...

NICE job m8..

I like your attention to detail ( screw alignment etc. ).

And that custom rail for the passenger seat is nifty ( can I say "nifty" on forums here ? ;) ).

Im zooming in all your pics to try to find something wrong..thats what I do .. so.. the only thing I can suggest ( Still a VERY NICE job ) is that the mount for that "custom" rail you have on your bolster. You might want to put a piece of plastic ( milk jug kinda stuff ) between your SS mount and the vinyl. It will help with "staining".

Again.. Sweet job m8.

That is one of the nicest doghouses I've seen built on here. Excellent work. Looks great with those jump seats as well.
