No good deed will go unpunished!

I told my Father in law I would replace his power pack in his Evinrude before checking it out very well. I replaced one in my '85 35HP a couple years ago with no problems, but this one apparently is under the flywheel and looks more complicated. Is there anything I shoud be aware of? Special tools involved? Is replacing it somewhat intuative? I can't find any free service manuals online to help me. He lives 100 miles away.
It is an electric start.

Thanks for any info any of you might have!

You will have to pull the flywheel. Pretty straight forward after that. You can get a loaner puller from an auto parts store. I will look around for my manual to see what the torque is on the flywheel nut.

Edit...Flywheel nut torque 100-105 Ft.lbs.

Good to know. I'll try to round up a flywheel puller up before I get there. Thanks!

I don't.

My FIL thinks his problems might be the power pack and since I replaced the one on my motor a while back, he wants me to replace his. I hope it helps. I told him to take it somewhere where they could diagnose the problem (that's what I did), instead of throwing parts at it, but he said he didn't have the money. It's hard to argue with your father in law.

I got in in and it seems to run better, thanks for your help.

I used an impact wrench to get the flywheel nut off. I borrowed a flywheel puller to get the flywheel off. I had to take some things off the top to get the wiring snaked through, but it all went back together fine. Thanks again!
