Hello

I have a Evinrude 5 1/2 HP motor, and i just bought a brand new propeller for it because the old one only had one blade on it. Anyways i am trying to install it but i have no idea exactly what to do. I have taken the rubber cap off and after that im not quite sure what to do so if someone could help me out i'd be much appreciative.

Thanks Alot,
Dewey

Re: installing a propeller

There should be a metal pin running through the hub of the prop and the propshaft underneath the rubber cap. That's the 'shear pin' which ultimatley drives the prop and affords it some protection. If someone subsituted a nail or something, it may be a bit of work to drive it through.
Then remove the washer behind it if present. Then pull the propeller off. You may have to turn the propeller as you pull it.
Before you install your new propeller, take the time to grease the propeller shaft. You'll thank yourself next time you remove the prop.

So what's the problem anyway? One blade not enough for ya? :D

Re: installing a propeller

On the 5 1/2 under the rubber prop cap there should also be a cotter pin in the prop shaft behind the prop. This was put there in case the drive pin was sheared the prop would remain on the propshaft instead of falling off. You have to remove this pin before the prop can come off.
