My 1983 70 hp Blue band has a small mesh bowl type filter just before the fuel pump. Would adding another filter between the tank and the bulb cause any flow problems? What filter type would be best?

Re: Installing a second fuel filter

Put a spin on and you can carry a spare just incase. Here's a good one it's out of stock so take the number to a NAPA store annd if the don't have one in stock it will come over night. Fuel Water Separator Kit for Mercruiser, Suzuki Outboard, Johnson, Evinrude, McCulloch, Scott Atwater, Volvo Penta, OMC Sterndrive Cobra, Yamaha Outboard, GLM 24950, Tempo 170101 - Sierra 18-7852-1 - iboats

So this type won't affect the fuel pressure on the diaphragm type fuel pumps. If not, I think I'm going to get one of these. Can I completerly bypass the other filter?

i put a racor filter like this one inline in my boat. the nice thing is it allows you to drain any water out without removing the filter (they also make ones with a clear bowl so you can see if there is any water settling to the bottom...bad fuel, storing boat outside, and built in fuel tanks can lead to condensation in your fuel).

i would keep your factory filter in place as well.

Yes you can bypass the screen filter if you want. Sierra and NAPA have the filters with a drain also with a better price tham Racor.
