Installing a tell-tale

I am installing a tell-tell on a 1976 25hp Johnson, never done it on this small of an engine. My question is, can I drill and tap the thermostat cover above the by-pass and install the fitting there? By the cooling diagram in the manual it looks like it would work.
Any thoughts?

Re: Installing a tell-tale

bernd64, thanks for the reply. When I do a larger engine I too drill and tap the top of the block or cylinder head.
kfa4303, mthanks for the reply. I found the article on the 6 hp, didn't know if it would work on a 25 hp.
By the cooling schemetic in the manual it should. I am going to try it anyway, the worst that will happen is I have to replace the thermostat cover and drill and tap the block.

Re: Installing a tell-tale

Hi Daviet. Just wanted to see if you added the tell tale to your 25 yet? I've been thinking the same thing to my '66 20 hp (tired of always looking back to see if it's pumping water) and just wondered how yours went. I was just gonna install a nylon elbow onto the top of the T-stat housing cover as in the link below. Thanks.
