I am going to install a washdown pump on my 25' Crest Pontoon boat. I almost have the plumbing worked out, but I need ideas/suggestions for the electric.

The pump will be about 6 feet (Wire distance) from the battery switch, about 2 feet from the battery and about 18 feet (again wire distance) from the helm.

I have a start battery and a deep cycle battery, with a 1/2/both setting.

The helm has #8 wire running to a fuse block.

The pump has a demand switch so I can turn it on and leave it on, but I do not trust it, because if the plumbing leaks the pump will run until the battery dies.

I am looking at three options:

1. Run the wire from the pump, to the helm, install a switch, and back.

2. Run a small wire from the helm, to a relay by the pump, and the pump to the battery switch.

3. Run wire from the battery switch to a mechanical timer , by the pump.

Option #1 is the easist to use with the least fault points, but that is a lot of wire, the pump draws 10 amps max.

Option #2 again is easy to use, but how reliable is a relay, and I am not sure how to install it.

Option #3 is easy to install, but a pain to use.

What would you do?? or how is it done on your boats?

Thanks
Jollymon.
