installing ACTRON tach on merc inline 6.. 90 hp 1979 w/ distributor..

hooked up new tach on merc 90 hp inline 6..1979..w/ green wire at coil ground as directed by instructions..no sign of tach wanting to work..also set tach for 6 cylinder as directed..

any ideas??

ps red is to power/ black to ground/ white is for tach lite..(connected to power source and light works..)

I presume that tach is compatable with Mercs? OK, A couple of things to check. First of all the ign power wire is white. That should go to the Ign terminal. Black is ground. Tach signal is a brown wire. You might remove the wrap cowl and make sure the brown wire is connected to one of the yellow wires at the rectifier.

Since you cited a red wire, and the only red wire is hot all the time, you need to trace the wires from the tach to the MerControl. Tach should only get power when ign is on.
