installing lower unit on Mercury Kiekhaefer Mark 6

I am trying desperately to put the lower unit back on to the upper unit, and getting the driveshaft, and water pipe to all go together at the same time seems quite impossible! Is there a secret sequence to the assembly? A trick? A slight of hand? I'm open to anything.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you have the motor that you have to turn the flywheel and lineup the gears in the lower unit to the gears in the shaft. When you removed the lower unit, if the flywheel moved, the gears in the lower unit and the shaft are misaligned..you have to put the lower unit in place and turn the flywheel a little at a time until everything lines up and the lower unit should side right in...
