just picked up a lowrance hds 5 for my boat. has anyone installed a new transducer in theirs? I'm wondering if i can remove the deck panels to run it, or if there's a tube that runs up to the console that i can fish it through?

I just installed a new transducer in my 2005 PG V16 and had to pull the side panel from the starboard side to run the wire. No tube in mine.

Mine has screws along the bottom and some on the inside of the console. The panel was a tight fit and took some persuading to get enough room to run my wiring.

are you replacing an old fishfinder or is this a new install?

yup, replacing the stock lowrance unit that came with the boat with an hds 5. i have to change out the xducer because this new one has different connectors on it. i also need to install some downriggers on the gunnels so i'll need to get under there anyway to bolt the bases on. just wasn't sure how to get it apart.

got em apart. the port side was simple. screws along the top and along the bottom edge. (i had to do both sides because i'm also installing some downriggers). got the rigger mount bolted down fine. the starboard side wasn't quite as easy. i started at the stern and removed screws as i moved forward. i removed enough of them to be able to pop the piece off enough to get my hands in there. got the rigger base mounted and also removed the old xducer cable and ran the new one. almost done.. all i have to do now is solder the power/ground connections together and shrink tube them. then i'll re-zip tie all the zip ties i had to cut to get the old xducer cable out. tidy things up a bit and put it all back together. should get it all buttoned up tonight after work and be ready to rock for the weekend. can't wait to try out the new hds 5!
