on a 73 Merc 800. This is the 2 cylinder version, installed on either side of the motors mounting bracket, with 4 total lines (2 coming from each cylinder).

Was going to install this last year but didn't find the time. So, trying it now. I found and printed the procedures for this, but have questions on things not covered:

(1) the bracket on each cylinder has 2 mounting holes. Whats the proper method / best product to seal everything once I drill the holes and start bolting? This boat has a perfect solid transom and I want to keep it that way.

(2) The top holes will be just an inch or so from the top of the transom - is there anything special I should do here? I'm asking because the guy I got it from said he didn't bolt the top one because it was too close to the top. ???? So he just had the bottom bolted - which seems like a bad idea to me.

(3) Previous owner of this unit clipped the 'Trim Limiter' wires. He said I don't need them. Really????

(4) Finally, what is the safest way to test this contraption before installing it (at least the motor with the switch) and if I install this but have a problem later, how do I manually raise/lower the motor??

THANKS for any help.

Re: Installing power tilt trim

The PTT cylinder mounting brackets have holes for thru transom bolts. You need to install at least the top one, along with the motor 's transom bracket thru bolt. This will keep the motor attached to the boat (a good thing). Seal all hole with silicone caulk.

If the trim limit wires are cut, the PTT unit will operate if you push the top and center buttons at the same time. If you connect the trim limit wires on the boat harness together, the middle button will have both trim and tilt functions.

There is a manual release valve on the control valve of the PTT Pump. (Very bottom knurled knob). If the motor is down, you can turn this knob and tilt it manually. it is not easy, but can be done. This knob will not allow the motor to go down, if you use the PTT to pump it up.

The PTT is not self bleeding. You must bleed the top and midsection of the trim cylinders to remove any air. A manual is best for this.
