Hi
So I just got a new prop and it has a hub kit with it, yet the hub isn't in the prop. I've been trying to read if it has to be pressed in or not. Can anyone let me know if it does or not? Its on a 1981 70 hp, 20" transom Model NO. J70ELCIM.

You install the parts in the hub kit into the prop. You should have some directions with the kit.

Hi Boobie. THanks for the reply. It did have "directions", but all it shows is an exploded view showing the order of parts. It looks like it might go in with some lube and a mallet. Yet I haven't even tried yet as I don't want to screw it up. It certainly will need effort to get it in as it definitely wont just push in by hand.

I've had to use a mallet before. BUT! Don't forget to install the prop thrust washer first before putting the prop on.

I see. I'm not sure I'll attempt it if the local prop shop price is reasonable. I've pooched to many grommets in my time by being cheap. lol.

What prop and what hub kit?

I betting the hub will press into the prop as the prop nut is torqued down, but will wait for you to tell us what you have.

Apparently I'm an idiot. lol

I took it to a prop shop (Prop Master in Airdrie AB), and buddy showed me I had it backwards. He put a light coat of grease on it and it just slipped right in. He was a nice guy and gave me the lesson for free.

Thanks for all the replies and help.

Well anyway you have it together correctly. You always learn something new every day. As Grandpa said.
