Both your engine and the fellow that jumped on the threads engines use the older type I power trim, many are available on the internet the differance between the 2 engines are the mount kit which is made up of nuts bolts ans spacers to adapt a a standard kit to the mid sizes (yours) clamp bracket and the large (his) bracket. In either case it's not much of a job

What do you do if you have a 140 HP? The biggest one is only rated for 130 HP.

I have seen the factory system for like $900 or so, but why do that? Just get the CMC deal. It looks pretty nice to me.

Hi, I am new here and reading the old post for tilt and trim. I have a 1971 Merc. OB 650 Thunderbolt. What is a CMC and what kind of tilt unit do I need. Thanks, Al

I have a '69 650 and I bought a '70 650 with power trim with the intention of swapping the power trim to the '69 motor but the one I bought was a saltwater engine and I broke one of the brackets while taking it apart. It was a three day event and I was trying so hard to be careful but that small threaded rod would not come loose:))
In any case I bought a couple more brackets on ebay from a 150 with the same trim setup and the brackets are the same size which was my point in replying to this thread. The brackets I bought had the same problem and whoever removed them just cut the rod with a sawzall, now why didn't I think of that??:))I am hoping that I can save at least one of them to do the swap when I get to it.This is a great forum and there are some great minds contributing here.I just reregistered under a new name as I could not change my old one and it was my email address.Ron G

Re: installing tilt and trim

i have a cmc installed on mine and it works pretty good. the diasadvantage is that its heaveir than an oem unit, so it will hang more wright off the transom. its easy to hook up and moves your motor back about 6 inches so gives a little better prop performance, but if your not planed out and cruising it does cause drag in the water with its bulk

I just installed the CMC model on a 74 85hp Evinrude on my pontoon boat, I love the way it works and saves me a back muscle lifting it out of the water. Didn't see much change when trimming it under power but that may be typical with pontoons. I do know that it installs very easily if you have a second hand and a way to lift the motor. Didn't have to modify any cables and it wires in about 10 minutes including the hole for the switch.
