installing water/fuel separator

hi all im installing a water fuel separator on my boat i have read that you cant install it where the battery is located but that is where the fuel line is this true or not a big deal also why is it so hard to find a place to mount in i hate drilling holes in a boat!!!!!!!!

I've never heard of not being able to mount a fuel filter around a battery.

My fuel filter and oil tanks is mounted in the same compartment with two batteries.

ok cool well thanks for the info it really donest make sense why would they run fuel line right beside the battery

Mine too. i think it's just a safety consideration because you might have a spark while changing the filter, plus more likelihood of a gas leak near a spark. be careful and give yourself room to work.

Cover the batteries (Mine are in a compartment but not in boxes, so I went to the boat junkyard and bought two tops to cover them--for sparks, something falling across them, or wash-over.)

ok i will have to cover battery terminal just to be safe
