I'm having a hard time finding gaskets for my lower unit plugs, it is a 70 hp Nissan 70A2; has any one used the instant gasket stuff for these gaskets ? Any pro's or con's in doing this ???

I wouldnt suggest instant gasket on a place like this - cant a standard o-ring fit !
Fibre gaskets are available as standard too -most automechanics have a box.

No goop on those plugs! Doubt it would seal under the pressure and vacuum conditions of a lower unit. The turning of the screw as you tighten it would likely squidge most of it out anyhow. In a pinch, I'd use G Danes idea of an O-ring. But the actual gaskets are cheap, especially compared to a gearbox full of water. If you have trouble finding a local Nissan dealer, try a Merc or OMC shop and see if they have gaskets the same size.

In addition, they are available at West marine in a box of 4 or 5. You can also go to any auto parts store, and buy the gasket material in a sheet. You could then make a punch out of two appropriate-sized pieces of metal tubing, pipe, antenna elements, or whatever you got laying around. And they would end-up being les than 5 cents each to make...Two whacks with a hammer, and you got a gasket. The setup (proper diameter stock, sharpened to a nice cutting edge), will take the longest. My father used to used a set of leather punches for this. They also come-in handy for making precise stud holes in exaust cover, carb, and other gaskets.
In a pinch, I have used a single wrap of teflon tape on the threads, but it tends to be a clean-up problem the next time you change-out the juice (don't wnat to get any of it inside the L/U).
And an O-ring has to be the right size, or it too, will roll out of the way when tightened down. But some L/U's come with O-rings instead of a fiberous gasket.
