why are you wondering about the cylinder walls and tops of the pistons...any particular reason???????

Spark plugs themselves tell a huge tale of the motor... see this link for photo samples of all types of issues...by NGK spark plugs...go HERE
Carbon buildup on plugs is normal...excess is not...
all plugs should be a little black...or slightly blackish = good running motor
oily plugs / lots of carbon buildup / gap almost bridged by gunk = excess oil...worn valve guides, aligned piston rings, worn rings/cylinder walls ...worn...excessively glazed cylinders = overhaul engine
all plugs look decent except one..is different...not a new plug..but super Clean...excessive fuel cleaning the plug off (check injector if EFI engine)...or water leak into cylinder...possible intake gasket leak..poss headgasket/ warped head....poss cracked head...or worse cracked block....
White plugs = running too lean = enrichen fuel mixture or overhaul carb.

Do a compression test.....if compression testing crank it over 3 to 5 times for MAX compression.....over 110lbs or better is decent...145 is better....
if the motor runs....is it knocking?
is there any smoke?
if so what color does it appear to be?
was motor sitting forever?
was motor submerged?
Blueish smoke out exhaust can indicate oil burning or excess fuel = check idle adjustment screws on carb / check gas is it new?
black is definetely excess fuel = check carb / efi
white is coolant on cars...so boats could be steam...white exhaust.. = water intrusion into combustion chamber
= worn rings...
shouldn't smoke out pvc/filler cap hole a teeny bit may be ok... ...if it does smoke, especially alot = it is worn out and tired!
