Hey does anyone have the step by step instructions to changing the upper bellows?

This is the email i got from my buddies mechanic, make sense??

-----------------------------------
We removed the outdrive from the back of the boat to inspect the lower
exhaust bellows that you aksed to replace.

We found the gimbal bearing almost seized because the upper rubber boot had
water in it causing the bearing to begin to seize.

We added grease to the ujoints and the ujoints are fine.

We will need to replace the upper bellows. In order to do that, we need to
remove the outer gimbal "helmut" disassemble it, install new bellows and
reinstall it.

Since we have to take the gimbal apart, we would replace the shifter cable
as well, the gimbal bearing and the seal

Here is the cost:

* Labour $783.20 (8.8 hours)
* Parts $295.00
* TOTAL $1078.20 PLUS TAXES.

What type of drive is this and do u have the tools?
I just did the bellows,water hose and shift cable on my 86 alpha drive. I already had the hinge pin socket. It took me about 4 hours to do the work including replacing the shift cable.

It depends on the drive you have. I did just the bellows on my 81 Merc in about 3 hours last summer. i knew I was going to do a full restoration and I did not do the other things.
