Re: insulation kit for boat motor cover

I have a 1986 and the insulation is also falling apart, did you find anything? I was thinking of useing RUBATEX a product for insulating ava. at a refrigeration wholesaler. Its black and sold in different sizes 1/2" 3/4" thick etc. will this hold in to much heat. I think the insulation is just for sound? Might also try foam sheets from upolstry shop.

It's strictly a noise thing. You can get some high quality foam and glue it in but be sure to test it. See how it reacts to gas and oil. Some foam products will fall apart in short order when subjected to chemicals.

Closed cell foam will work but is harder to find and exspensive.

Bob

There are several products, made for this purpose. Self addhesive, with flameresisting surface, multi-layer etc. It is important that such insulation fits perfectly as even a minor gap will allow noise to pass.

Stumbeled over a catalogue online to show you - just find a dealer near you.
