I have a small oil leak on my 1993 Merc 350-Magnum, I think I have it narrowed down to the back of the intake manifold. I took the oil pressure sender out and re-teflon tapped it and the elbow it screws into. I cleaned up everything and took it out today and the leak was still there at the rear upper part of the engine. I think it is the rear intake manifold gasket, Its a mercuriser reman engine I am guessing they used the old intake and all that stuff, (previous owner had it done) Anyway is that Intake gasket Marine grade or will a gasket from an automotive store be the same?? doesnt really matter to me as far as cost just want to get the correct one. Thanks

first get rid of the teflon tape it has no purpose on a boat or engine causes more problems then it fixes. use a high temp thread sealant.

I can get rid of the tape, not a big deal, but I still think its coming from the intake..and its not leaking all that much..just making a mess in the bilge. So what do you think about the gasket if it comes to that, marine grade? or good automotive quality and some silicone?

is this a vortec motor? anyway it doesn't matter what intake set you use, on chevy motors the intake kit comes with front and rear cork or rubber gaskets, never use them just clean really well and put a bead of silicone down, test fit the manifold with the new gaskets the you can see the gap and how much silicone rtv to put down. I found the gaskets it comes with tend to slide out of the front and rear, rtv works great, hope this helps and is not confusing.

i have used felpro 1256 intake gasket on 1995 350 mag with good results....21 bux at summit racing
i never use the end gasket pieces tho...i run a heavy bead of permatex ultra grey rtv on the block ends overlapping the gasket..
never an issue
