Interceptor alarm

I have a Caravelle Interceptor with a 350 mag. When I run at wot I get an alarm. It sounds like the depth finder alarm. I start to loose power also. If I throttle back to idle the alarm continues until I shift to neutral. The boat is an 08. Is 5000 rpm over the rev limit. The tack goes to exactly 5000 rpmbut I thought this was within a 350 mags range. Should the alarm go away when I slow down.

sounds like you may be hitting the rev limiter, 5000 sounds a little high for that motor and guardian may be kicking in

the only way to know what alarm has been going off is to check the fault codes with a scan tool

I take it this is a solid alarm, and with that it could be your seawater pump pressure. You get a solid alarm for that, oil pressure, outdrive oil level and coolant overheat if you have closed cooling. The 5K rpm is the WOT for the 350 Mag, and the rev limiter would be set above it

It doesn't have closed cooling. Temp never goes above 175. I thought 5200 was max rpm.

It does sound like your hitting your rev limit alarm. Out of curiosity......why would you want to max out your RPM's like that anyway. That's a good way to shorten the life of that motor really quick. Is your boat "prop'd" correctly? If you want more speed change your prop.

5200 is max rpm and the limiter will shut the engine down at that rpm. I mention closed cooling only for the coolant overheat. no closed cooling no coolant overheat, but all others previously mentioned have a solid alarm

I hit 5000 with the boat lightly loaded and only me on board. I had throttle left but with a boat load it probably wouldn't be an issue. A local shop quoted $95 to read the alarm codes. It kind of bugs me to spend the money if it is only an over rev alarm but it also kind of bugs me not knowing for sure.

You may not see a code but if it is the rev limiter the scanner will be able to tell the max rpm the engine has seen. Another way is to order your own scanner from Rinda marine for 400.
