interchangable parts from different manufacturers

Does anyone know of , or if there are parts from different engine manufacturers that are interchangable -----maybe drive shafts , prop shafts , lower unit parts ---????? I know that merc and mariner are the same and evinrude and johnson are the same , but will yamaha and merc or evinrude akin to each other.

Maybe only on a very rare occasion but not likey otherwise.

If anthing interchanges, it would be a rare coincidence. <br /><br />Each outboard manufacturer designs custom parts. They generally do not buy stuff from specialized parts manufacturers, as the car companies do.
