88 is a model designation which has more to do with cosmetics, oil injection, power trim etc than power output. The 88 has the exact same powerhead as the 90 and 100 (late model flat back V4 crossflow). Your 88 has the same bore, stroke, intake manifold, ignition, mid section and gear ratio as the 110, 112 and 115 late model V4 crossflow.
Can you make your 88 into a late model 115 crossflow (which is the same as the earlier 140 V4 crossflow)? Sure. But it's unlikely you'll see enough difference to justify the cost.
If you're looking for more speed take a look at your set up. More times than not there's more to be gained there.
Will any V4 crossflow ever be as powerful as a 60* or 90* V4 looper? No way, won't happen.
