Re: Interchangerbal carbs

As long as you are using a set of three and not mixing carbs there will be no problems. BEFORE you use them, take precautions and at least remove the bowls. depending upon condition either clean the carbs assembled or disassemble completely (best option anyway) and clean them

Hey Jerry. I dont have numbers off of the ones off of ebay but they look the same. Intake, bolt holes, linkages, ect all look the same also. I have a 81 Chrysler 140 Im parting out, that has the bracket on the top and the bolts on bottom right there by the power trim motor? Is that what your hunting?

Tach and stuff 002.jpg
Look at the bracket it has 2 holes for a 1/2in bolt.
Then on the bottom a hole for a 3/8 or 5/16 bolt.

Thanks.
Anyone else have them??
I have T/T parts and brackets for 40/50.
Also lots of other stuff.

Re: Interchangerbal carbs

Nope, Jerry! Chrysler brackets were ALL clamp-on type. In fact, so were early white Force brackets. It wasn't until later that they were changed to the through-bolt brackets.

Personally, I prefer the clamp-on brackets OR the very late bolt on type similar to OMC and Merc. The through-bolt types were very propne to splitting from galvanic corrosion between the stainless bolts and aluminum body. --Really a poor design and a stopgap so they didn't need to change the forging dies too much---CHEAP FIX.

I do have a set of through bolt (black or blue--I forget). BUT--- I don't know if I can get them off the lower mounting rod for the power trim. If I ever get to it, I will send you a private message.

Re: Interchangerbal carbs

By the way. The carbs came off of a 1987 force 85 and they DID work on my 1983 Chrysler 85..the main jet in carb was different, but it works. Frank...In your pyle of outboard stuff, do you have 2 bowl bolts off of 1983 chrysler 85? If so, Ill buy em and have a extra set of carbs. Thanks

Bowl bolts? You mean the screws that hold the bowls on?
Some of the BOLTS?? have holes drilled into them and are part of the metering/jet system.
Make sure you get the right ones???

Catfish: Send me a private message with your name and mailing address. You should have the plain 7/16 brass plugs on your 1983. If so, I will send a couple by first class snail mail. I don't even know what to ask so when you get them send me the postage and anything you think they are worth.

Re: Interchangerbal carbs

Hey Frank. How bout a Power pack for 83 Chrysler 85. I finally figured out that my carb problem wasnt a carb problem at all. #1 and #2 plug wires are firing every now and then where #3 is firring every time its supposed to. took it to a certified outboard mechanic and right off the bat he found that the prob wasn't the carbs, but in the ignition. All grounds nr good and #1 fires when it wants to and #3 isn't firing at all. There is 2 power packs and 3 coils. the #1 and #2 are connected to the box to the right if your looking at the motor from the right side. If you have one, how much you want for it? Thanks so much.

Re: Interchangerbal carbs

If the #1 and #3 aren't firing??#1/2 maybe firing??#3 not firing???
Doesn't sound like a powerpack???
The #1/2 fire off the same pack and #3 off the second.
If they are maybe????? firing then i'd start with the stator.
Replace all the wire end connectors. On the trigger too.Check all the grounds.
Do a stator test/ outboard ignition . com or C D I ignition both have test procedures.
The ends have shrink tube on them and can be broken and still look good and fire intermittenly.

Re: Interchangerbal carbs

Im sorry jerry jerry. I meant #1/2 are not firing and #3 is. Now #1 and #3 is firing and #2 isnt I know that half of a power pack can work, but its very uncommon. I checked all of the shrinkwraped ends..all good. Ill try outboardignition.com and CDI test also. I knew yo u can swap wires on the CDI boxes and see if the problem follows. I did thatand it did. also the # 1 just started working out of the blue, so thats why I was leaning toward a CDI. Pulled flywgeel and stator today..no wires pinchedm and wiring diagran looks to be spot on. Thanks Also anyone onow where I can get a control box wiring harnes for a 1982 chrysler 85? Thanks again.
