I had a question for you guys to see if you could shed some light on my lack of knowledge.
I am looking at purchasing a boat locally that has an older 85 evinrude that needs a little help. Trim isnt working properly (i dont have the boat yet, so diagnosing that problem hasnt begun yet) and i know that in this style of boat the "tower of power" is very popular. I was looking into possibly just buying a newer used motor and putting in on. Something in the 100-175 hp range.

My question was, if i happen to get a powerhead from another boat, is the lower just interchangeable if its an evinrude also?

I guess my question is kind of vague, but was just wondering what works with what. Im not necc sticking to an evinrude, I just want to know what i could possibly end up getting my hands on for a decent price if i put the peices together??

Sorry for my question sounding so "newbie" but i am very new to outboards!! VERY NEW but im a quick learner.

You're correct, your question is far to vague to come close to an answer.

Get some model numbers and then someone can help you.

Re: Interchanging Outboards Powerhead/Lower???

There are many powerheads that share the same mid-section in the Johnson/Evinrude line. For example, in 2002-2004 the V4 90 and 115 hp motors have the same midsection. So interchange is bolt on. Same with most of the V6 models.

Just got to do some research.

Thanks for that little insight. Ill have to look more into ONE~purchasing the boat and getting it here to start the master overhaul. Should be by this weekend.
Then ill start looking on something for a repower. Any other info is awsome.
