I'm thinking of buying a 72 foot Navy ship as a liveaboard. The ship already has been converted (for the most part), so it has a nice galley, captain's quarters, and bathroom. That is about 40-50% of this ship's usable space and, except for the captain's quarters, that is all deck level. Below deck (in addition to the captain's quarters) is the engine room, crew's quarters and crew's galley. The crew's quarters need to be updated, but generally look to be in good shape.
What I really trying to figure out from a cost perspective, is what it might cost to build out the engine room. The room is about 30-35 feet long and 15-17 feet wide. It is more or less just an open, clean space (the engine was removed).
I've looked through past posts and can't seem to find a rough estimate for something like this. I would probably build that area out to be a fairly open space for entertainment (so, built in shelves, flooring, wall finishings, lighting, etc.) I realize that the costs will vary widely depending on quality of materials and whether I do the work myself, but I would still find it extremely helpful to have a general sense of what those ranges might be. For example, if I do all of the work myself other than wiring, plumbing and things that might affect the ships integrity, how much would this type of project cost using middle of the road materials? If anyone can direct me to a good source to help me figure this out, that would also be great.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
