Interior storage hatch?

I was wondering what is involved if I wanted to put a storage hatch on my 93 Bayliner Capri? I notice many other Bayliners come with one but unfortunately, mine did not...

I want to get something like this...

I was wondering if I simply cut the hole out and install the hatch and that is it? If there is stringers where I cut out, do I just cut them out as well? I basically want room to store my life vest and etc...

That hatch looks like the right product for your project. Just don't cut the stringers to make storage space. If you can find a 93 Capri or get info from Bayliner to deterime where the hatch should go, you should be able to cut the floor without hitting a stringer.

Where did the other Capri have the hatch located? Post some pics of your layout.

Also, you can take a 2" hole saw and cut a hole where you want to put the hatch, then probe around (coathanger, etc - disconnect battery first!) to make sure you have the space you need. If not, epoxy the 2" cutout back in place (use Marine Tex).

The stringer can probably be identified by tapping on the floor and listen for the sound change. Like finding the stud in a wall in your house.

But I must repeat, do not cut out stringers for any reason. They are the backbone strength of the hull.

+1 what mark said. Also make sure to seal the exposed wood that you cut. Paint some resin on the wood to make sure no water gets in there and rots your floor away.

Should be able to, probably depends on the setting you use on the finder.
