For those that have used perfection brush and tip, did you and how much did you thin the paint?

Did you use interthane 2333N as suggested?

The instruction manual says thin as needed up to 10%, its about 65 degrees here now. I am nervous that it won't be thinned right and this turns into a 110 dollar screw up.

Someone ease my mind please.

ps. Got some awesome foam rollers that can be cleaned with solvent and wont come apart like the HD ones do, and a really nice tipping brush.

If this is your first coat thin down 5% and paint. This will not be a final coat but a FOUNDATION for a final coat. So just lay it down notice what happen's and the next coat dont repeat your mistakes.

It should take 4-5 coats to get a good build and final finish and with each coat your ability and skill will improve..however between coats gently cut down imperfections with 400 grit or better.. personally i would cut it back with in 36 hours..Perfection will dry rock hard and is very hard to sand after 48 hours.

After four coats your going to get to your money finish thats the one to sweat all prior to that are just prep..;)

4-5 coats!!!? Perfection instructions say 2 coats. Did I not buy enough paint? I based the amount of paint off the pyatch websites calculator for perfection.

I am only going with the 2 coats recommended, plus all the photos of the final finish I have seen have been with 2 coats of Perfection...

Re: Interlux Perfection thinning?

Im not the end all in painting with perfection but it is not a two coat finish as best as i know. Your also not laying down a convential paint its a film intially a 2 part film that dries into a 1 part product.

i doubt you will be able to lay down enough paint to get that type of coverage and not a lot of runs or sags you need to mix up a very small quanity and play with it say 1/2 of a cup.

While it is possible to get coverage with a sprayer on that magnitude more than likely you will get solvent entrapment..That is where there is so much paint on boat that the outer skin drys but underneath that skin there is still a lot of solvent and it must go somewhere. And it does it actually creates a bubble between the hull of the boat and the dried outer layer.

The end result is your new paint job will look like teenage acne...There will be a few come along who have painted a few boat's im sure they will chime in with a similar response..Go take a look in finished product's i have been exactly where your at now..

Man tailgunner that is PUUURDY. Good job. So more coats but thinner is what your saying? I only bought two kits and the boats 17.5' so if we don't have enough I guess we will have to buy more. Thx for the replies!
