I have a 1984 evinrude 140, I noticed that in one carburator I have a set of intermediate jets (#25) and I the other carb It doesnt have any intermediate orifices. Both carbs have the same part # and look the same, but one of them( the top one) just has holes where the orifices would go but , no jets, no threads, and the holes are slightly smaller than on the carb with jets. Possibly the wrong float chamber? Does any one know why this would be? The moter dies when you give it throttle slowly, and doesnt idle very well , mabe this is the poblem? I am considering drilling and tapping threads for #25's. any info would be appreciated thanks.

Did you just get the motor? If not, has the motor always run bad?

Re: intermediate orfices missing?

It's always possible the bowl is defective from the factory. Certainly, it's an unusual situation. The running problems may well be attributed to this bowl defect. It's also interesting that this engine came with two different bowls from the factory. The upper and lower are different part numbers. Unusual. Your original upper factory bowl is no longer available-has been superceded to 392375. That bowl is also NLA, but there are some dealers around that still have new stock on it on their shelves. If you don't want to fuss with drillng and tapping, you can buy a new one from a Bombardier dealer: The Ulrich dealer has 4 of them in stock.
