intermittent no-start

I have fairly new 9.9 Johnson (~1990 but at the cottage so cannot look right now). I bought it 3 years ago and it has been terrific - starts and runs like a charm. However, I have had two incidents recently when after starting it I was preoccupied with something else and it stalled - and then it took forever to get it started again. When it did start there was no evidence of flooding - it would simply start perfectly as though I had turned a switch.
Which makes me wonder if I have a problem with the kill switch. When I bought it there was no clip but by depressing the button the ignition would disable. Is it possible that there is something loose in there? I did fiddle around with it (push, pull, twist) shortly before it did finally start.
I have never had it cut out on me when running under throttle.
Could my symptoms be a flooded engine? It really seems electrical to me.
Cottage is on an island so am now concerned about leaving my wife on her own if motor is not dependable.

By pass the switch & see if that does it.

Will try that the next time it happens but with internittent problem that may take a while.

BTW - how best to bypass the switch? Disasemble the tiller handle or do something under the hood?
