I am running IE7 on my Dell w/Windows XP w/update 2. I am with AT&T Yahoo Prodigy, when I leave my home page and come back to it w/ the home button or refresh the IE browser will not fully load the page and I get "BONG" sound and a message that IE could not load the page, click ok and get the white screen.
I spent the better part of an hour this afternoon w/a Prodigy Tech trying to figure out the problem. His final answer was< "I don't know what is wrong with your computer>. DUH!!
The only time I have the problem is with the Prodigy Home page, I can into the mail server or anywhere else and no problems.
Any opinions would help. I have done all the customery reset solutions and restet my computer back to Oct 1sr and did all the Microsoft updates again today.
I was looking for a different internet service anyway, this may just tip the scales.

Try setting your home page to another site or you could download Mozzila Firefox browser.Thats what i use and its faster than IE7.Sounds like an issue with IE7 and your service provider...
You can always remove FireFox if it does not help.

IE7 does some pretty screwy things. Use FireFox whenever you can. For Microsoft sites and updates you have to use IE, but otherwise I'd stick with FireFox.

Try Opera.
It's real neat and has the option to auto update pages or forums like these. :)

Get rid of IE7 its too buggy yet. Go get IE6. :)

Yup. IE7 isn't that great. Been using IE for years with no issues. I'm still using IE6 and it works fine.

Re: Internet Explorer ??

Try this. Right click on the Desktop icon for what you want.
Click properties. Right click and copy that address.

Hit control panel, click Internet Options, in the General tab, homepage box, right click- delete whats in the box, then right click- paste the addy in the box. Click apply , then OK. Might have a bad address in whats in there now.

If that don't work, just dump it as a HP. Hit control panel, click Internet Options, in the General tab, click and apply "Use Blank". Click OK.
Then just click off where your at, pick it up (HP) again off the desktop icon.

Thanks Scatty, trtied that yesterday, didn't work. I also could not get the antispy ware program to work. Removed and downloaded it again from Prodigy. The Prodigy home page in the only page that it happens to. I think it is something do do w/whatever is loading on the new page they put into service on the 1st of November. It starts to load and then I get the bong from IE and says it cannot load the page.
This crazy, just fooling with it, sometimes it loads ok and then bong!!!!!!!!!

At this point me neither. Prdodigy does have thier own browser, maybe they did something on the new homepage they moved me to try and get me to download thier browser. I did download thier tool bar, which was about 2.5mb, that is a pretty big download. I really do not see anything different w/it. As I said earlier, I may just switch providers. Or, maybe try firefox.

It's all the same WWW. Use whichever browser you like. Your ISP has absolutely nothing to do with it. You can set your starting page to whichever you like no matter which browser you choose. I don't know if this is the case with you or not, but...

Some ISP's software will set your start page to their page. This sometimes gives the customer the impression that it's necessary. It's simply not the case. I've had many customers believe this to be true over the years. I've also had many still decide not to change their home page to something other than their ISP just in case I'm wrong. It used to drive me insane.

Is prodigy home, and whatever page it redirects to ("http://myhome.prodigy.net/") in your "trusted sites" for IE? Hopefully your IE security is setup to block a number of things in the "internet" zone. In the trusted site, security should be a bit less restrictive. Maybe prodigy is trying to run something that gets blocked.

Absolutely 100% agree. I have experienced the same thing with some of our end users that feel the need to install their isp's software on their work laptop just so they can connect to the internet. I have had cable internet for 10 years now and I've never installed any of the providers software on any of my computers. You simply don't need it.

I was thinking the same thing myself. Have you or any family member changed any security settings on the internet explorer? I was also thinking that it could be an active X problem, if the home page has a video advertisement of video playing at all it may have a little something to do with it. Especially if they updated the home page. It could also be a Java problem.

I tried Fire Fox (mozila) web browser for about 10 minutes and I deleted it off of my computer, didn't cure my problem at all, But I also think my problem is through the internet provider its self. My 2 cents mozila sucks.

Good thing you like IE. At least you can delete Firefox if you don't like it.
