I'm wanting to change from McAfee Internet Security 2004 (it has AntiVirus, Antispam, Privacy Controls and Parental Controls). I've had a lot of problems with it and want to try something else. Anybody got any ideas - I'm leaning towards a package by one software company but am open to any suggestions. I especially want/need an Antivirus program and a Parental Control program. What do you guys/gals use?

Hi 87Aggie, I've been using McAfee now for the past couple of months with zero problems, What sort of problems are you having with McAfee?

You might want to take a look at Zonelabs, Zonealarm Security Suite. I've used ZoneAlarm Pro firewall for years. Hard firewalls/routers basically watch the WAN side (what tries to get in). They don't watch what goes out of your router. That's why I run a soft firewall like ZoneAlarm with a router. It watches traffic both ways.

I also use a hardware router and AVG software. I think the biggest thing is getting the updates on a consistant basis. That hopefully keeps your virus protection one step ahead of the virus producers.
Ralph has some good links with lots of info.

I understand your desire to have a single s/w package do it all, but my experience and what I've read says you need multiple packages. I've used Norton System for about 5 years with good results and agumented it with a firewall by ZoneAlarm (free download) and a spyware guard by SpyBot (free download). Have also added free AdAware and free SpywareBlaster. The combinations finds things that one package alone may miss. Have been subject to junk/virus which has been successfully handled by the above. Since I'm on DSL, it's important to have effective safeguards.

Good luck.
Boatneck
