Had time to waste last night.-------Saw the proud presenter trying to pound the taper pins on a Johnson V-4 block.------He struggled trying to get them out with a bigger hammer because he was pounding them in the WRONG direction.----Same presenter installed connecting rods on a 9.9 and did not show / comment on the need to line up the rod caps.-----Some presentations are good.----But if you do not know then some of these videos do have glaring mistakes.

most u-tube vids contain mis-information. you would think they were reading a haynes or chilton manual.

The worst thing about most Youtube maintence videos is they fail miserably when used as knee pads.

The next worst thing is very few are edited, just a raw dump. Does anyone benefit by watching 16 oil pan bolts getting removed?

And why are so many minutes devoted to the videographer's face?

Will add that most videos have a horrible loud music background that needs to be turned down when there is no comment going on.. Now everything is YouTube...

You know, there's a solution. All of you can flood Youtube with better videos.

A competitor's videos is doing a decent job with John Talley. However, that is mainly videos of outboards that most of the budget conscious people don't own yet.

Brandon's garage is busy building his house now instead of dissaembling OMC outboards. His videos has provided the best visual details of a v4 crossflow teardown.

Dangar Marine is busy with his Detroit Diesel for his trawler.

Born again boating does a decent job, but I believe most of his videos don't cover anything about major engine block work.

I can't think of much more else than that, so plenty enough room for old Mercury and OMC powerhead rebuild videos that are accurate and informative.

Going to try and make a video of the rebuilding of my 1980 Johnson V4 140.
Not a lot of video of a complete rebuild including show some tweaks i have picked up from here and S&F.
As was said above Dangar doing his trawler Brandon has house.
May not be a video for the masses, will not even be a lot of boaters cup of tea.
There is a need ( i think anyways ) for someone to show how to build - fix - tune old OMC motors not everyone has $$$$$$ to spend on a new or even second hand motor.
I didnt take any videos of the tear down but i have a ported intake to compare with a normal one. I basically have one worked on (Port matched, casting marks removed, plunge tits remove ect ect.)
his is the motor i will be assembling first then another video of doing the work on the second engine. If like doing this stuff their must be people (like us ) who would find it interesting.
Anyways i will let you know how it goes
It will be a week or so to film edit ect ect .
Watch this space :)

Most videos arent there for original chilton or hayes type information... Most channels are for "entertainment" only!!
My videos in respect to "how to" work are awful at best cause this turned into a hobby! and I believe that any information is good information as long as you do your do diligence and research.

I used to post to youtube for fun but due to the 1000 sub rule... now i have to work pretty dang hard to get there.

Basically Im not trying to impress the pros. If you work on outboards or cars or whatever you could nitpick my videos for days lol

but disclamers are in place and i think it provides entertainment on a couple levels.. at least if you see what i'm doing wrong, thats gotta be amusing right? lol
