Invalid serial number?

Hi guys.

First year with an '86 Four Winns pushed along by a Merc 470. I've done some work on the boat and on the engine and so far I like 'em both.

But one thing I haven't been able to resolve is that the serial number doesn't jive with any listing I've been able to find. The number on the plate - starboard side near the rear of the block as well as on the valve cover is "A680332".

When I do a look-up for parts, accessories, etc. I NEVER can find a serial number beginning with an "A".

What am I missing?

try OA in front of your #just means your engine is an 87 year model.hope it helps

Not sure I understand "try OA".

All the serial numbers I see are seven digits - all numbers. Mine is a letter followed by six digits. I've seen nothing in that format. It's crazy. There must be a cross-reference somewhere, but I've not been able to find it.

Your engine serial number is 0A680332, making your engine a 1986 MERCRUISER 170 Model No: 01702346.
