Re: IQ and Occupations

Looks like foremen have lower IQ's than the people they supervise. I figured that all along.

Re: IQ and Occupations

all that is fine an good, but the upper IQ's couldn't make it without the common sense of the lower IQ's. carpenters, mechanics, etc. the Higher, know how to design something, but not clue how to put it together, or make it work.

classic example, architect/engineer, i was building a home he designed. i ask him, how he proposed to do something he had designed. his answer was, i don't know i just draw it, making it work is your job.

Re: IQ and Occupations

Intelligence is not the same as knowledge, skill, competence or wisdom.

It is simply the ability to learn and understand but does not insure learning has happened.

I was a member of MENSA for a few years. My fellow members were cops, teachers, farmers, engineers, technicians, carpenters. . .a cross section of our culture. Some were wise and knowledgable, some were simply freaks and the rest were somewhere between.

LOL , most of us have at least thought this very thing .

What the chart shows is a gradually increasing upper limit of IQ ranges , as the level of educational requirements increases .
While the lower measured IQ 's ALSO increased , those of only slightly above average IQ's could be found in most every occupation listed .

No great surprises here , but , intellect does not immediately translate into real - world achievement/success .
Far from it , IME .

Some of the most highly "educated" individuals I have ever met could barely tie thier own shoelaces .
Great for theory and raw facts , completely useless for anything beyond a schematic .
Also , some of the least "educated" individuals were some of the brightest , and , talented , individuals I have ever met .
They can see a blueprint or schematic once , and , make it work flawlessly .
Just do not ask them to do long division .

Those gifted in 1 or 2 areas are often handicapped in others , sometimes tragically so .
