the guy said it was frozen,,the drive that is,,omc 800, on 21' glasply with 3.8 omc. it turns over,,it has a VIPERTBX14.75x19 rh prop on it with nary a ding.
the skeg has absolutely no marks of ever hitting anything,, ( nice )
so should I put some money into this?? is it woth the effort?
parts seem expensive,,but if I fix it it seems like it would be an efficient set up?
boat was well taken care of.
thanks

I don't find anything inherently wrong with OMC sterndrives . Parts are readily available and not too expensive it seems. Obviously they're old these days but it's just a few gears and bearings in there

Hello gang,,,I'm a newbie here.
I don't see any wrong with OMC outdrive either, especially when the shift cable is adjusted correctly.
But I don't think, stringer 800 is worth it.
Ball gears, 3 seperate gear oil housing,,,could cause some problem.

I agree with Bond-o. They call them Oh My Christ because that's usually what you'll say when things go wrong. Some aftermarket "Sierra" parts are cheap but not all. However, if it works use it! When and if that drive causes you grief then look at other options. There are some good ones.

But still, what's so bad about them? Are the bearings too small for the torque? Gears eating themselves up? Housings cracking in half and falling into the water?
