Is 130hp good for my boat?

I just got an 18' Sea Star around 1980. It's your typical speed boat. The motor is a Chrysler outboard 130hp. I think it is about as old as the boat. I am friends with the guy who is selling it to me and I know it runs well, and the motor has been maintained pretty well.
Does anyone have any idea if that is a good sized motor for this big boat? I know you don't have much to go on, but I don't know much, this is the first boat I've owned. I thought if any of you know a lot about boats you might have an estimate of how fast it will go? If it is a good fit for this boat?

I would take it for a test drive and see if it fits your needs. Look at the USCG sticker for max hp, should be close to max. I don't know your boat but it sounds like it's in he ballpark. Chief ;)

A 130 hp is just fine for this boat. The beware though is that Chryslers do not have a good reputation, are no longer made, and reports are that parts are hard to come by.

HP sounds right.
Make friends with a good precision engineering firm.
When parts are not available they are the only guys that will keep your motor running.

It is a tough a call. You seem to feel the motor has been taken care of by your friend. I would probably keep looking. The Chrysler motors are a POS!
