Is 3M 4200 gas compatible?

I found the source of my water leak into the gas tank, the rag trick worked! The gas cal. Is 3M 4200 gas compatible? I need to use something to seal between the gas cap and the base of the filler neck. To replace would be a major pain to get at!

Looks like when the previous owner had the gas cap replaced they didn't replace the neck.

PS, what holds the filler neck to the hose, there is no clamp that I can feel?

4200 and 5200 are not gas compatible, however, you are sealing against water intrusion.
That filler looks ratty. I would expend the "major pain" to replace it. Leaking water is not near as dangerous as leaking fuel.
The hose is held on to the filler neck by a hose clamp. PREFERRABLY 2.
Really, don't screw around with anything fuel. Lifes too short, as it is......

There are no clamps, so it must be "glued on" somehow

My mistake, there are 2 clamps, I can't even get my hand up to them, so replacing will be near impossible.

As others have said, having a potential gas leak on a boat is NOT good!!

That is one ratty fuel fill fitting. Can you remove the screws that hold it to the boat then pull it out far enough to get the hose clamps off? Might have to remove the hose at the gas tank end to give you enough slack to pull some hose out far enough to remove the clamps.

see if you can get the other end of the hose loose.you might find it more accessible. then you can pull it out and get enough slack to clean-change and re bed. this is the way i had to do my scupper drains. you should be able to use 4200 to seal the fuel filler neck to the hull.

Well after much aggravation, I have cut off the old neck. Couldn't pull the gas hose thru the hole in the hull, the hole is not big enough to get the clamps thru. So I got the filler neck assembly out far enough to get a hack saw blade behind the lip and cut it off (don't worry it was plastic). So now I could push it into the boat and thru the hole in the hull get at the clamps.

Went to the local West Marine (expensive place but the only boat parts place locally) and of course they had no fuel deck fills in stock.

It will be a real bugger trying to get the clamps tightened on the new one, I can barely even get a hand up there! I may have to notch the hull opening for the filler tube so I can clamp it on the outside and then push it back in....

mike; i don't think that would hurt. as stated that's the way we had to do ours. the flange should be big enough to cover the notch.
better that than not getting hose on neck tight.

Quick update for everyone who helped. Cut off old fuel deck fill, dremeled out room for the clamp bolts to come thru. Pumped out every drop of fuel from the system.

Ordered and installed new perko screw on gas deck fill.

Just filled it up, put on the muffs, started it up.

Ran it on the muffs at idle for 30 minutes, longest it has ran for me!!! LOL

Bought it a month ago and up to this point it had ran for a total of 3 or 4 minutes!

Glad I fixed it right, and thanks to all that helped me out......
