Is 4.5hp 1980 evinrude the same as 7.5 hp,,,just bigger carb; ???

i was checking on parts for my 4.5 & (7.5hp) parts were also showing on parts page !
I've heard sometimes engines are same block, just larger carbs; to increase hp ?

Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your mtrs and compair part # 's.

marineengine shows different part numbers for std pistons and rings.

The 4.5 and 7.5 powerheads are VERY different. The 4.5 powerhead's lineage comes from the old 3hp models. The 7.5 was a new design in 1980 and didn't share powerhead parts with other models until they added the 6hp later in the '80s...

Could that be just to distinguish them? Wouldn't the block/crankcase be more of an match test ? Just throwing that out...

Ok...was just hoping to have more power w/out buying another eng;...I'd like to ask you another ?....My eng; has the internal tank, as well as external. I was looking at her yesterday and it looks like she is just gravity fed by internal tank..The fuel line doesnt pass thru the fuel pump from that tank... If my pump is bad, will she run off internal tank?
