Is 50 HP enough?

I am considering purchasing a used 2009 Lowe FM165 with a 50 HP Merc 2 stroke.
My question: Is 50HP enough to get this boat up on plane with 4 people and a load of fuel?
Your opinion is appreciated.

50 HP should make a good fishing setup and if propped right it should be no problem with planeing but don't buy any boat without trying it in the water and if it's not right let the seller make it right or don't buy it.

I doubt with 4 people and a full load you'll be happy

since you are asking this question I assume that you have some concerns with top speed of the boat and want one that will run out pretty fast even with a load. I would think a 50 would get it up on a plane loaded but you may not be happy with the top speed. A test run would answer your question. I would probably want a 70 on that set up.

two problems... a 16.5' boat with 4 people alone is crowded. My 16" Sylvan deep V and a 50 hp will notice a change in power even with the second person and again with the third. With 3 people and fishing gear, its a tight fit but getting up on plane is no problem. Add a cooler, 3 tackle bags, 6-7 rods, a water jug, and you're out of room. It goes OK with even 3 but you won't be flying.

What Laddies Posted. What is the boat rated? 50 hp seems alittle small
