What does the capacity plate say is the maximum HP? You don't indicate what model boat you have.

A 19" pitch prop sounds like it's too much. My boat came with a 17" from the factory, and the boat is rather light. If all you can get is 4000 RPM at WOT, either the motor needs work or you are over-propped (or both).

well that was removed by pre owner so not sure on that i know my wot is 45 to 55 rpm i have read a lot of post that a 19 is great for pulling am going to be ordering a prop before spring because last trip out sand bar chewed it up do y really think a 17 would be best if so well reorder a new one the #'s i got were before the prop got chewed up.

What is the dry weight of your boat? We have that same engine on a Bayliner Capri which I am sure is a lot lighter. It only weighs 1050 lbs dry. We use 17" and 19" propellers. A 19" three blade aluminum will push mid 40's on GPS but we generally keep the 17" inch on for all around performance and water sports. We don't have a tach but I recall seeing other posts and this engine will rev well past 4k rmps. How is it out of the hole?

hole shoot is good not great takes a little bit longer to plain than i want but it is good even loaded down with 4 kids me and my wife. notto sure will have to call bayliner back and get some more spec.my dry weight would be over im haveing to split the hull have wet foam and a small gas leak alu tank and do a transon replacement.the engin has never been opened upits a bare bone trophy no extras .

I'm still wondering what size boat you have....... also , if you are about to replace your deck , good chance your flotation foam is waterlogged...

First do a compression test to make sure the motor is ok.Then a spark test.
You need to test for max RPM at WOT.If 4000 is the max then you need to look at a 15pitch prop. You will get better performance and better fuel economy.
That boat was rated for a 90-95hp max.If it has that many problems it's time to look at something bigger with more power.J

Re: Is a 85hp force enough

I agree with stachi about the 17" prop. That motor needs to turn up more[5500-5800 max]and these motor were built to run at max rpms,so its not like its out of its range, and it should help with the hole shot also . Now all this is if the motor is running correctly, so you do need to know what the motor is like inside with a compression check ,fresh plugs [if it hasn't already had some ], what about the pump impeller ,fuel pump diaphragm and check valves?Just some things you need to check out first if they haven't already been done. Keep us posted on your progress as it might help some one else with similar issues. Hope this helps .MOPARMAN ROLL TIDE 9-0

i would love to do a compression test but the motor is being torn down have to replace king pin its froze up that still has not made its way out, not sure doing a full tear down the clearence on the rings are good.i did pull the head wanted to see if i had carbon built up.and i didnt. I am planning to change the fuel pump.while its down. i will update as i go the best i can. i will also try to post pics of hull seperation, fuel tank removal a reglassing under deck
