Hi i'm just wandering if a 15 hp force outboard a reliable motor. I am looking at one that I am interested in buying. The guy says he bought it new 9 years ago and that parts for it are easy to get. Is any of this information accurate. thanks

Hi Woody

As 99% of the guys will advise, do a compression check, and spark check. If you have compression and spark, you only need add fuel to complete the bang.

As to reliability, its like anything. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. I look at all of the repair/maintenance forums for all makes, and all older outboards are just that, older outboards. OMC/Merc etc have the same questions asked about thier engines of the same vintage. Speaking of vintage, what year is the 15hp, that would help with the parts availibilty question. I have had no problem at all getting parts for my 1988/125.

Hope this helps somewhat, because if the price is right, and the comp etc check out, & you need a 15hp, I'd go for it!

Cheers

Well as for the year the guy said he bought it brand new about 9 years ago so its 2002-2004.

NOT Possible! Force was discontinued in 1999. At best he may have bought it new but left-over 9 years ago.

I kinda figured that since I have not seen many on the water. I have seen pictures of it though and it looks pretty new. So I think your right on.

There is no longer anything such as a Force Mechanic, woody. There are lots of guys who have a lot of experience with Force engines.

Hey Woody

I am a 'handyman' at best. Do some floor tiling, put up my own TV antennae, do my own brake pad/oil changes in my car. A little bit handy on most things.

With the forums help, I have learnt many things. I first asked when I bought my boat " is there anything you wouldn't attempt". The consensus was " we would try ANYTHING". Guys on this forum rebuild these dependable, relaible outboards and make them run with the more 'reliable' brands. I am more confident taking out my 3 kids (8/6 and 2) on my boat, knowing it will start everytime. Sure, it might suck more juice than a similar other make, but I can work on it. I can do the timing, link and sync, carbs, ignition, waterpump etc, all wothout some dumb a** mechanic saying ' you need a new engine cause I have no clue'.

Welcome to the forum.:)

Well I just want it to get me and my dad to the fishing hole and back besides the guy is practicly giving it away. He just had a tuneup done on it too and I can do all that work my self as well as a small outboard machanic.
