Re: Is a lot of backpreassure nessasery? (above water exaust)

i'm running my 1955 15hp on a early 1960's 14' LoneStar Commander aluminum v hull, my runs better than 25 mph, yours has to be running around 35 to 40. as i said earlier balance the load i have a 14 ft hose on my remote tank so it can be moved all the way forward. battery for trolling motor is under center seat. tiller control, that puts 90 lbs or motor and 190 lbs of me in the stearn, sometime is wish i had a couple of concrete block is the bow when i'm alone.

Hey Lark, the motor is a 1989 25 hp johnson comercial long leg 2cylcle, it has a bigger carbs and intake on it and from what the mechanics i have talked have said the estimate that i am at 30hp.

"Now why can't my son be more like ferrariman. I can't drag my boy away from the TV and ho-ho's to work on my boat"<br /><br />That's hilarious alden! F-man, why exactly do you want it to be loud? Honestly most folks like to get out on the water and enjoy a peaceful day of fishing or just relaxing, so your little idea might not make too many friends at the boat launch. And there are too many instances of people putting holes in other's boats, if you know what I mean.

Well mike, The soul purpose of my boat is to hold me and a friend and fly of wakes made by all the rich peoples yauchts. I dontwant my boat unbelivebly loud . If i were able to attach this exaust and manage to have my engine still run strong i would most likely out a Silencer on the back so i could keep the nice engine note (well nice to me) and keep it not to loud.

Best be careful jumping them wakes, cuz if you start clearing the water, you lose the load off propeller and the motor will over rev. Not good if that happens alot. Why don't you just invest in a jetski? you'll have more fun, and attract more girls ;) <br /><br />And be careful jumping wakes in a plain old boat, you might not like the results. Plus it's not comfortable, this coming from fighting rough water in a 14 foot jonboat. <br /><br />And....is that little boat rated for a 25hp motor? You can get in trouble for overpowering a boat, if you get caught.

Well F-man, if you’re serious about learning what can and can't be done to your little outboard than I take it all back, but.... when you open a post the way you did than the likes of me are gunna get very worried about the caliber of the next generation of boaters. For what its worth I suggest you get along to some boat racers and have a chat to some current campaigners and have a good look at some of the very wild small outboards that are out there. In the pics above are some but there are many more. Tuning the exhaust of a 2 stroke is like swapping cams in a 4 stroke. There is much more that can be done to get the HP up but a lot of damage can be done also, bigger carbs, tuned exhaust and modifying the ports are all on the table for you to try and to learn. Making your tinny fly over wakes is great fun and brings back lots of fond memories; just remember to connect a kill collar cus your gunna get wet a lot if you’re as gung-ho as you sound. Good luck. So

If you really want to be obnoxious in a subtle way, relabel the decals on your motor as a 9.9HP, and make your boat look like an old garbage scow (but lighten it up and wax the hull real good). Then you go out and pass the high rollers with their yachts. This will probably create more anguish than a noisy buzz-box skitteling around on the water. It will also likely promote business with the local marine mechanics or dealers when the big boys are outrun by a 9.9 trolling motor. Perhaps you could get some kind of sponsorship from the dealers.

Remember one thing young man, there are not any stupid little questions. Therefore, ask away and evaluate and choose the answers of the many who respond.

Fman, on he transom should be a plate that tells you the max wt,max hp, max persons. damn i remember the good ole days, and i still have fun with my Lonestar and 15 rude. i have 2 bigger boats and this is still my favorite. get a killer swith if you don't have one and be safe wear your life jacket when you are jumping. you never know when the wind is going to catch the bow and bring it back over you SPLASH. the pros wear safety equipment be a pro. live long enough to get the water out of the engine.

In Canada there are no laws against exceeding the boats rated hp.

I once had a minimost Hydro with a 25HP, was like bullet on the water; when the boat was in the water. usually it was just the cavitation plate and prop in the water. I wonder what transport canada would have to say about that nowadays?

when is 16 i had a home made hydro w/1950 15hp rude that you had to start put in gear before you could get in because with my weight at 125 the transom would sink. damn it was fun of course you had to beach it to get out. that's why i bought the 55 i have now. the 1950 sat to long when i was in the navy, babies etc. Fman enjoy yourself and have fun but as i said before be safe. learn now and build us old guys some new motors. show the world how it's done.
