Is a small gap acceptable on a water pump

Rebuilt my water pump using the old housing out of the 1986 Evinrude 40hp. When I put the steel band in there was a gap of maybe .020-.025" where the ends meet.

Do you think this is acceptable?

That's not much of a gap. At running speeds, the veins on the impeller are barely touching the sides anyway.
